Sylvia M. (Jenkins) Argo
Sylvia M. Argo, age 96, of Shelby, died early Friday morning, July 13, 2018 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.
Sylvia was born December 11, 1921 in Shelby to the late Clyde and Ethel (Rigg) Jenkins. She was a lifelong resident of Shelby and was a 1939 graduate of Shelby High School. Sylvia had been employed at Wilkins Airforce Depot, the office at Montgomery Ward, and the credit department of Shelby Business Forms, from where she retired in 1983.
Sylvia was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served on various boards and committees, and was a member of a quilting group, Mary Martha Circle, and Good Fellowship Class. She was known for her gifted craft skills, such as quilting, knitting, crocheting, and needlepointing, and received many honors and ribbons for her perfected skills. Her interests also included reading and taking day trips when possible. Above all, Sylvia loved to spend time with her family.
On August 12, 1939 Sylvia married the late Clayton Argo and together they had four children: James (Jackie) Argo of Ontario, Beverly (Jay) Weakland of Tucson, AZ, Janet Argo Hall of Shelby, and Elaine (Irby) Walker of Headland, AL. The children survive along with 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Sylvia was one of 7 children and 3 of her sisters survive: Beatrice Hall of Shelby, Mae Cattey of Shelby, and Clara Mosley of Bucyrus. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, her husband, Clayton, preceded her in death on February 18, 1996, along with 4 siblings: Ernest Jenkins, Eunice Clabaugh, Ella Argo, and Gladys Durfee.
Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 5-7 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 10:30 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 East Main Street, Shelby with Rev. Dr. Edna Stahl officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
