Helen Frances Cole

Helen Frances Cole, age 76, of Crestline, passed from this life on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Helen was born January 28, 1942 in Crestline, the daughter of the late William and Doris (Schafer) Bauer. She was a 1960 graduate of Crestline High School and retired as a teller from First National Bank of Shelby after 20 years of service. She was a member of Child Guidance Mothers Club, had been a 4-H advisor for many years, and spent lots of time volunteering at Buckeye East Elementary School. Helen was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ in Crestline where she was in the church choir and had been a Sunday school teacher.

Being a mother and grandmother was her number one priority; a job she did well. She also enjoyed sewing.

On June 23, 1963 Helen married Gary A. Cole and he survives. Also surviving are: 2 daughters: Kathryn (Jim) Zaborowski of Cable, Ohio and Amy (Scott) Reed of Cincinnati; 4 grandchildren: Samantha and Jenny Zaborowski and Cole and Grant Reed; 2 sisters: Kathryn (Phil) Leathem of Caledonia and Edna Mae (John) Rooks of Clearwater, FL; 2 sisters-in-law: Carol (Jim) Minehart of Upper Sandusky and Shirley Bauer of Crestline; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a brother: Leonard Bauer; a sister and brother-in-law: Esther and Jim Finney; and a sister-in-law: Mary Alice Ruth.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2-5pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 am. Her minister, Rev. Gary Proietti, will officiate and burial will follow in Sandusky Township Cemetery, Biddle Road, Crawford County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary United Church of Christ, Crawford County 4-H Advisory Committee, or the Alzheimer’s Association of Northwest Ohio.

  10. Jim Eckstein says:

    Dear Gary & Family,
I just received The Advocate today and learned of Helen’s death. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss and for a person who was loved by so many in the fondest of ways! We were members of the same church, classmates, in many similar activities together and came from a farm background. And our families shared similar interests. Our son, Mark, attended Miami at the same time Amy did and of course my mother (Sylva) hinted more than once that Mark should contact her. I know that the loss of Helen leaves a deep hole in your soul now but the warm memories of her life and love for you will last forever. Jim Eckstein–Friend/Class of 60
